  • Congratulations to Aquinas High School students Elizabeth Phillips, Charles Boyd, Tracey Schirra, and Cecilia Scott, who were published in this year’s Ralph Munn Creative Writing Contest anthology of student work. Elizabeth and Chas were both honored as finalists. (Sept 2011)
  • AQUINAS ACADEMY ATHLETE MICHAEL BLUME NAMED LACROSSE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN: Michael Blume, an Aquinas Academy of Pittsburgh senior of the class of 2011, was named an Academic All-American by US Lacrosse. (August 31, 2011)
  • On Saturday, May 14, 43 of the 51 top scorers from the preliminary round of the 54th annual First Year Algebra/Integrated Math II Contest participated in the final round of the competition at Derry Area Middle School. Seth So earned second place among all contestants at the finals. The following 7th graders were among those who advanced and competed in the final round: Brennan Woo, Ben Glatz, Joseph Richthammer and Elena Liguori.
  • Congratulations to Marile Schraut, who has been selected as a 2011 National Merit Scholar. Marile is one of 8400 students who received this $2500 scholarship from the National Merit Foundation. This places her among the top 0.5% of students who took the qualifying PSAT in their junior year.  (May 2011)
  • Congratulations to Michael Blume, who has been selected as a one of 7 Runner Ups for WPIAL Scholar Athlete. As a Runner Up, Michael is awarded a $500 Scholarship. Michael is the first Aquinas Academy student to be recognized as a finalist for this recognition by WPIAL for student athletic and academic achievement.  (May 2011)
  • Congratulations to the following 7th graders who competed in the 2011 Mathematics Council of Western PA First Year Algebra Test at Baldwin High School: Brennan Woo, Ben Glatz, Seth So, Joseph Richthammer, and Elena Liguori. All five of our 7th grade students advanced, along with 17 other students from Allegheny County, and will compete in the finals at Derry Area High School.  (May 2011)
  • Congratulations to Marile Schraut, Andrew Kirkland, and Allura So who competed in the Pennsylvania High School Speech League’s State Tournament held last week at Susquehanna University in the categories of Prose Reading, Radio Announcing and Impromptu respectively. Andrew Kirkland finished 5th place in the category of radio announcing; which included over seventy competitors. Marile placed second in the State in the highly competitive category of Prose Reading. (Apr. 1, 2011)
  • Eighth grade student Claire Mortenson was awarded first prize for her project in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science regional competition. She is now eligible to enter the statewide competition in May at Penn State University. Congratulations Claire! We wish you much success in May.
  • Congratulations to sophomores Maria Ignelzi, Elizabeth Phillips, and Meg Boyd, who were invited to perform in this year’s Pittsburgh Public Theater Shakespeare Competition Showcase of Finalists. Their Henry V scene was co-coached by Chas Boyd, a junior. Honorable Mentions went to seniors Allura So and Alaina Ignelzi (The Winter’s Tale), and 7th graders Elena Liguori and Lucy Zaharko (Two Gentlemen of Verona), and Caroline Allen and Savannah Hardman (Twelfth Night). Kudus to the strong performances of all seventy-nine Aquinas 5th-12th graders who participated, particularly to seniors Daisy Flynn, Marile Schraut, James Heisler, and Michael Blume.
  • Marile Schraut, a senior at Aquinas Academy, won the District 2 Pennsylvania High School Speech and Debate State Qualifier competition in the category of Prose. Competing on Saturday, February 26 at Pine-Richland High School, Marile won the final round, qualifying her to represent Aquinas Academy at the PA High School Speech League State Tournament at Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, PA on Friday - Saturday, March 25-26, 2011.   • Congratulations to Michael Rhein for competing in the 200 and 500 free events in the WPIAL swimming championships on March 3rd and 4th. Although Aquinas does not have a team, Michael qualified as an individual and performed well. He was one of only 6 freshmen to compete in the 500 free. We look forward to following his future success. (Mar. 4, 2011)
  • Senior Mary Grace Meland recently participated in the Pennsylvania Music Education Association District One Chorus Festival at Chartiers Valley High School. Mary Grace rehearsed and performed with 174 other high school singers in this annual festival. She also placed 4th chair out of 23 singers in her section, earning her a place in the Region Chorus Festival. Congratulations, Mary Grace.(Feb. 2, 2011)
  • Congratulations to Michael Blume, who was selected to the All-WPIAL soccer team for the second year in a row. He is the second to be so honored in Aquinas Academy's history and the first player to receive the award in back to back years. (Nov. 27, 2010)
  • Aquinas has been named one of the top 50 Catholic High Schools for 2010-2011, an honor held since 2005. > Press Release
  • Aquinas Academy was honored to have Mr. Tom Monaghan, Catholic entrepeneur of Domino's Pizza fame, speak about his life story, "A Millionaire's Vow of Poverty".  Mr. Monaghan focused on how our Lord called him to deepen his own life of faith when he was at the peak of his worldly success.  He is the Founder and Chancellor of Ave Maria University.
